MECK Pre-K’s approach to Child and Family Support

If you’re reading this blog, you are probably familiar with some of the benefits of pre-K. A high-quality pre-K program provides learning and exploration, with hands-on, project-based teaching that incorporates real life experiences into the learning process.

However, as we know, there is more to a child’s development than what happens in the classroom. High-quality pre-K programs recognize that students and their families need support both inside and outside of school.

The MECK Pre-K Approach

At MECK Pre-K, there is a Child Development and Family Support team that provides comprehensive support to students and their families. They offer a broad range of services designed to benefit every member of a MECK Pre-K student’s household.

Services for All Families

Throughout the year, the team provides lively workshops and activities for families. They send regular emails to families, offering tips and advice, and information about services to support their well-being. They also provide extensive social-emotional guidance for teachers and caregivers across all MECK Pre-K locations, promoting best practices in student education.

In addition to the general services they provide to all families, the Child Development and Family Support team uses assessments and communication with teachers to identify circumstances where a child or family may need extra support.

Personalized Services

If a family is facing specific challenges, the Child Development and Family Support team will provide personalized assistance to address the family’s unique needs, ensuring that every family receives support that is right for them.

If a student requires special assistance, the team will work hand in hand with teachers and parents or caregivers to create customized support plans for students. Tailored learning approaches are developed after careful evaluation, to identify the most effective educational interventions for each student.

The mission of the Child Development and Family Support team is to help children and their parents or caregivers to reach their fullest potential, contributing to a more promising future for children in Mecklenburg County.
