If you answered “yes” to both questions, you can apply to MECK Pre-K!

The MECK Pre-K application process has two steps:

Download or Request a MECK Pre-K Application Packet.

Request an Application Packet via mail by emailing to info@MeckPreK.org or calling (704) 943-9585 and providing your address.

The Application Packet includes a Cover Sheet explaining what documents you need to send, the four-page Application, and the Locations Selection Pages.

Complete the Application and Submit Documents

After you download the Application Packet, you have two options: Print it and complete it by hand, or save it and complete it on your computer. If you wish to complete it on your computer, take the following steps.

● Save it to your computer.
● Open it with a pdf reader (free download).
● Type directly into the form fields in the pdf.
● Save your changes.

You can complete the steps at home or request an appointment by calling (704) 943-9585.

MECK Pre-K offices are open at a limited capacity, and masks are required for in-person visits.

The following documents are required for enrollment:

Proof of child's date of birth and legal name

Please submit one of the following documents. Document must have birth date and child’s name:

  • Original or Photocopy of Birth Certificate
  •  Passport
  •  State-Issued Identification Document
  •  US Department of State (I-94 Arrival/Departure Record)
  • Refugee Resettlement Letter (Local sponsoring agency, US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement)*
  • Decree of Adoption
  • Life Insurance Policy
  • A certified copy of any medical record of the child’s birth issued by the treating physician or the hospital in which the child was born
  • A certified copy of a birth certificate issued by a church, mosque, temple, or other religious institution that maintains birth records of its members
  • Previously verified school record

Parent ID

We need one copy of a photo ID from the parent or guardian who is applying. It can be any form of official government ID from any country as long as it has your picture and name on it.

Current Proof of Mecklenburg County Residency

Please submit one of the following documents:

  • Copy of residential deed OR record of most recent residential mortgage statement
  • Notarized Residency Affidavit AND copy of mortgage statement, deed or lease from homeowner/leaseholder affirming tenancy
  • Copy of residential lease
  • HUD closing statement

In addition to that, please submit one of the following documents:

  • Any ONE utility bill or work order dated within the past 30 days, including: gas, water, electric, telephone, OR cable
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License OR Valid North Carolina Identification Card
  • Dated within the past 30 days: Payroll Stub, Bank Statement OR Credit Card Statement
  • Current Vehicle Registration
  • Dated within the past year: Vehicle Tax Bill, Property Tax Bill, W-2 OR Medicaid Card

If you don’t have any of the documents above, please submit one of the following documents:

  • Letter from approved agency (group home)
  • Refugee resettlement letter
  • Copy of Charlotte Housing Authority lease

These documents are for address verification and must reflect the current address of the applicant.  Mecklenburg Partnership for Children has an appeal process for families who have difficulty verifying proof of residency, so students can be enrolled without unnecessary delay. This residency policy does not apply to homeless students, as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act.

Proof of ALL Current Household Income

Due to COVID-19, Mecklenburg County has lifted the income restrictions for the 2020-2021 school year. Families earning more than 400% of the federal poverty level for their household size will qualify, but documentation is still required.

Please submit one of the following documents:

  • 2 Consecutive pay stubs (within past 30 days)
  • Tax returns (if you have worked in the same place for a full year and are self-employed)
  • W-2 OR 1099
  • Unemployment or Disability statement
  • Child support
  • SS/SSI benefit letter
  • Letter from employer
  • If there is no source of household income, please have the relative or friend providing financial support write a detailed letter including the amount of assistance provided.

If there is no documented source of household income, for example a relative or friend is supporting your household, you can submit a Statement of No Income form. Please contact our office to request a copy of the form.

Please ensure that all documents are legible.

• Current Immunization record
• Health Assessments for all new Pre-K students
